While California is known for some of the busiest and most iconic national parks in the country, it also contains some of the least visited. Lassen Volcanic National Park is the latter - a reflection of its remote location, rather than the quality of the park. In fact, the lack of traffic makes it all the more enjoyable. The park is known for its diversity of microclimates, and miles of quiet trails leading to peaceful glacial lakes. Of these, Shadow Lake is our favorite.
